It’s been a while since we’ve been in your inbox and we’re excited to share some updates and opportunities with you as we prepare for our 5th edition of the Women X Film Festival.
Women X Film Festival Tickets Now On Sale!
Women X is excited to announce the full programme for its fifth edition, taking place in person and online from 20th to 22nd September. The festival welcomes returning and new audiences to the Darlington Hippodrome where the Hullaballoo Theatre, Festival Studio, Festival Lounge and Breakout Space will be based.
Women X 2024 will screen exciting and fresh short films whilst celebrating the achievements of emerging and established talent from women and non-binary directors, writers and producers. The full programme will include 70+ films across 10 strands which combine various genres and storytelling forms including comedy, horror, experimental, documentary and a special showcase of Northern talent.
Our fifth edition will also host a series of industry events, roundtables and workshops focusing on development, networking and navigating different career pathways in film. Other live events include the conclusion of the Women X Script Writing Competition 2024, Writers Lab sessions hosted by our development team, Creative Craft Networking and the return of the 2000’s inspired Film Quiz.

Killer Shorts Competition - Discount!
The Killer Shorts Horror Short Screenplay Competition celebrates horror short screenwriters and authors from around the world, providing them with career opportunities and industry access. The star-studded panel of judges includes Gregory Nicotero (The Walking Dead, Creepshow), Barbara Crampton (Suitable Flesh, Re-Animator), Xavier Burgin (Horror Noire: A History of Black Horror), Sophie Carrol (ALTER, Gun Powder & Sky), Melody Cooper (Beasts of Prey), Chelsea Lupkin (Short of the Week) and literary manager John Zaozirny (Bellevue Productions).

Warner Bros Discovery - North East Opportunity
Are you part of the growing pool of women directors based in the North of England and aspire to work in episodic TV? The WBD ACCESS x Waterloo Road Directors Programme is ON! Warner Bros. Discovery invites you to apply for the chance to experience director training on the set of the hit BBC series Waterloo Road. Through this programme you will gain an insight into all facets of television, including developing episodic television, prep expectations and working collaboratively with the cast and crew, partnering with the BBC, Rope Ladder Fiction and Wall to Wall North.

Call for Venue Volunteers
Lastly, we are seeking new volunteers to assist with the festival at our venue this year. Volunteering is a wonderful way to gain hands-on experience in the film industry, meet like-minded peers, and be part of the magic that brings our festival to life. If you are passionate about film and want to contribute your time and talents, we would love to hear from you. Volunteers play a crucial role in the success of our festival, and your support is greatly appreciated.
