RPeaPod: June Is Here 🍦

The days are getting longer, but this newsletter is a short one!

Hi RPeaPod!

We are currently heads down, laptop screens open, spreadsheet tabs wide, post it notes flying, note taking crazy into our final programming sprint for Women X.

So everything else month is taking a well deserved back seat, less socials, smaller newsletter, less email replies (sorry!) as we focus on the exciting building of our 6th festival film programme and our 3rd edition of our script competition.

We are so proud to say that we received 40% more submissions this year, breaking our previous record and having more countries across the world engage with our festival more than previous years. We also had 47% more submissions from Northern filmmakers, hitting another record (and also just incredible to recognise more production coming from the region!)

Due to this increase in submissions, our founder Caris raised the issue that despite this exciting change, this now meant the festival naturally would now be more competitive for filmmakers to be selected.

Previously we have held 10 screenings across the festival weekend, so to expand the opportunities for filmmakers to have their work curated and screened, Caris has worked hard with our financing, venue capacity with Darlington Hippodrome and technical partners North Star AV to expand to at least 20 screenings.

Meaning that as Women X grows, it will not lose it’s roots and mission of expanding the opportunities for female and non binary filmmakers to exhibit their incredible work.
